Birdz is a game about learning bird calls. You build a base in a real habitat — forest, grassland, wetland, desert, mountain, or coast — and birds start showing up. When one calls, you listen and try to name it. The more you identify, the more your base grows: you earn seeds, place feeders and ponds and brush piles, and the birds that like what you've built start hanging around as regulars.
Every bird in the game is a real North American species with its call written out phonetically, field-note facts, and — wherever a freely licensed recording exists — actual audio. Recordings come from public-domain collections like the National Park Service sound gallery and Creative Commons sources like xeno-canto and Wikimedia Commons, with full credits shown in the app. Browse all of them in the field guide.
Birdz is an independent project, built by one person with a lot of help from field recordists who shared their work freely. If a bird in the game taught you to recognize a call you now hear on real walks — that's the whole point.
